People say nothing can prepare parents for parenthood. So. Not. True.
People say nothing can prepare parents for parenthood. Becoming Us was created to dispel this very unhelpful myth! Based on over 15 years of research and counselling parents, Becoming Us is a world-first "lets break this down into more manageable stages" approach to the transition into parenthood, created by Elly Taylor, Relationship Counsellor, researcher, author and worn-around-the-edges mother of three.
Becoming Us supports mothers, fathers and same-sex partners at any stage of their family life cycle and prepares them for the next stage - from those thinking about starting a family, trying to conceive or planning to adopt, through to parents of teens.
The Becoming Us Professional Development Program equips birth, health, therapy and helping professionals to fill a gap in most couples' preparation for parenthood and guide them through their first years of family. Once completed, participants can choose to become Certified Facilitators of our Becoming Us programs for expecting and new parents, which can be run in a variety of environments, including community reading groups, company sponsored classes and Babymoon retreats.
Becoming Us is here to support the mental, emotional and relationship wellbeing of parents and to connect them in with the caring professionals and support networks in their communities, so their whole family can thrive. It's always going to take a village.
Elly Taylor is an Australian relationship counsellor, independent parenthood researcher and author of the award winning book Becoming Us.
Elly began trying to get her head around the whole parenthood thing over 20 years ago when she and her husband were blindsided by the changes and challenges they experienced as new parents. For years, after she discovered most other parents were blindsided too, she wondered why they weren't being prepared for this.
Fast forward to now and Elly is the founder of Becoming Us, an organisation created to teach helping professionals her research and evidence-based approach to the transition into parenthood and to support mothers, fathers, partners and families to thrive.
Elly lives in Sydney with her firefighter husband, their three children and a bunch of pets.
